Evidenced-Based Practice

Foundations Counseling Center is an evidence-based practice that enforces a collaborative approach between our team of mental health providers and its individuals, couples, and families it serves.  Together, with our clients, we set measurable treatment goals and use practices that have been shown to be effective in reaching positive outcomes.

What makes Foundations Counseling Center an Evidence-Based Practice?

Our Collaborative approach: Evidence-based practice involves a collaborative approach between the people served and the team of care providers. Our clients are encouraged to take an active role in their treatment and are supported in making decisions about their care. This collaborative approach can help people feel a sense of competency as they make progress toward their personally meaningful goals. As part of this collaborative effort, all clients are asked to complete quality assurance surveys on a regular basis. We utilize this data to complete an annual practice evaluation our treatment effectiveness. This feedback helps us to always provide high quality, effective care.

Our Biopsychosocial Diagnostic Assessment: As part of the intake process, all our mental health providers gather information from our clients to complete a detailed biopsychosocial diagnostic assessment. This type of assessment uses a holistic approach and examines the interconnection between biology, psychology, and socio-environmental factors. With this assessment, we are able to properly diagnose and efficiently select effective interventions for our clients.

Our Goal-oriented Approach: Evidence-based practice typically involves setting goals and benchmarks. Specific, measurable, realistic, and time-limited treatment plans are developed by our clients with our mental health providers.  These treatment plans are based on our clients’ own individualized needs and preferences and are designed to help them achieve the outcomes they desire. By working toward goals and specific outcomes, our clients can feel a sense of accomplishment and progress.

Our Psychoeducation of Self-regulation: Short-term evidence-based treatments often involve teaching skills and strategies that can be used to cope with stressors and symptoms that have been causing distress. Our mental health providers provide psychoeducation of such skills that are necessary for treatment goal achievement.

Our Approach to Treating the Person Within Their Environment: The providers at Foundations Counseling Center are trained to not only address psychological and emotional struggles within our clients, but also obstacles and challenges that exist within their environment. Our providers encourage family therapy and couples therapy to improve relationship problems that may be affecting our clients’ mental health. Our providers also provide referrals for community-based resources designed to help alleviate environmental stressors such as food insecurity, housing, and financial needs.

Our Use of Evidence-Based Treatment: Evidence-based treatments are models that have been studied and consistently demonstrated to be effective in improving specific situations or problems. Our providers use evidence-based treatments such as CBT, DBT, behavior therapy, EMDR to help our clients reach their treatment goals.

Our Focus on Strengths: Evidence-based practice often focuses on identifying and building on the person’s strengths and resources. By focusing on strengths, we help clients feel more connected to their support networks and communities, and capable of managing their mental health.

To schedule an appointment for an initial appointment, please call  (702) 240-8639. Our administrative team is ready to answer your phone call Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. If we are busy assisting other clients or away from our desk, we ask that you leave a message, and we will return your phone call within two business days. You may also reach us via email.

Your first appointment will be with a mental health provider. If you are a child or adolescent, your parent or guardian will be with you during this appointment. During this initial visit, your provider will explain the expectations of treatment and ask questions to get to know you. Your provider will also initiate an extensive Biopsychosocial Diagnostic Interview asking questions about your presenting problems, current living situation, family history, relationship history, medical history, academic/employment history, nutrition, lifestyle, and other pertinent information. This allows your provider to properly diagnose the issues, assess your current needs, and work with you to build an individualized treatment plan for future sessions.

Foundations Counseling Center is in-network with most insurances. Most policies include mental health benefits and pay for services, as long as treatment meets medical necessity. Others cover only a limited amount of sessions. Some insurance policies pay for 100% of the services. Others apply co-pays, co-insurances, and deductibles for services, leaving you financially responsible to pay a portion. Most insurance companies cover all mental health conditions. Others exclude certain diagnoses and certain outpatient services. It is best if you contact your insurance company to learn and understand the benefit details of your insurance coverage.
